Top 16 Japanese Horror Movies

We haven’t seen too many amazing Japanese horror films in recent years. They’re out there, sure, but they seem to be few and far between. When you do find a great one it’s like uncovering a diamond in the rough (and I’ve seen a few of these myself, so they are out there!). Goo recently held another vote for readers’ favourite Japanese horror films and this list manages to include a few new ones amongst old favourites. What horror films are Japanese audiences enjoying right now? Let’s take a look!

16. Cold Fish (2010)
15. The Black House (1999)
14. It Comes (2018)
13. Another (2012)
12. Joyurei (1996)
11. The Complex (2013)
10. Gakkou no Kaidan (1995)
09. Zan’e (2015)
08. Innocent Curse (2017)
07. Sadako vs Kayako (2016)
06. Ju-on: The Final (2015)
05. Sadako 3D (2012)
04. Dark Water (2002)
03. One Missed Call (2004)
02. Ju-on (2003)
01. Ringu (1998)

A lot of the usuals (anything Ringu or Ju-on), but it’s nice to see some other films sneaking in! It Comes has been on my list of movies to watch since it came out, and I’m a huge fan of Zan’e as well. Any films you think deserve to be on this list that aren’t here? Let me know!
