Top 5 Toshiden Episodes

Toshiden will soon be returning for its second season with a fresh round of Japanese urban legends! In the meantime, if you missed any episodes or aren’t sure where to start, or just plain want to know which episodes were the most popular, wonder no further! Here are the top five Toshiden episodes by listen count:

5. Tomino’s Hell, the cursed poem

Tomino’s Hell is, at present, the most visited page on this website, and the podcast episode itself comes in at number five on our list! There are only a few listens standing between this one and number four, but this deep dive into the history of Tomino’s Hell and how it came to be viewed as cursed has proven itself extremely popular with urban legend seekers!

4. Kashima-san, the vengeful spirit with no lower body

I dare say that Kashima-san (and her close variant, Teke Teke) are up there as some of the most famous Japanese urban legends, and with her extremely rich and complicated history, this episode comes in just shy of the third on our list.

3. Hitori Kakurenbo

The last episode of the first season comes in at number three on our list! Who doesn’t love a creepy game of hide and seek all alone at night, doing your best to hide from the supernatural entities trying to spirit you away?

2. Mary-san, Kaijin Answer & Satoru-kun

You get a weird phone call. Someone’s getting closer each time they call. What could go wrong? This episode focuses on how these three legends all relate to each other and comes in at number two on the list.

1. Kuchisake-onna, the Japanese horror legend

It probably shouldn’t be a surprise that Japan’s arguably most famous urban legend comes in at number one! She also makes her mark as the very first episode of Toshiden, so I honestly didn’t expect any other result.

And there you have it. If you want to play catch up before the second season begins, these episodes are probably a good place to start!
