I don’t know if this counts as a strange experience with video tapes *exactly*, but way back when The Ring came out on DVD, one of the extras was a copy of the cursed video from the film. I watched it and a few seconds after it finished, my phone rang. Pretty sure that was one of the biggest frights of my life. Turned out to be my mother, who had heard me watching it and was laughing her heart out in the next room….
