When You Understand: Tree Frogs
Stories with a hidden twist! Can you guess what’s really going on? Scroll further down to find the answer…
My older sister drives to work, and there’s a city road she always takes as a shortcut. It’s a narrow road next to a river, and both sides are surrounded by grass.
If you live in the countryside, then you’d already know that these types of roads tend to see a lot of tree frogs when it rains in summer. They jump all over the road, and it’s almost impossible to move without stepping on one.
So, one rainy night, my sister was driving home on that road, and of course, it was covered in frogs. She noticed a car up ahead of her driving quite slowly.
Apparently the driver was a young woman around my sister’s age, but she was driving only around 10 kilometres per hour and moving all over the road. It was impossible for my sister to overtake her.
‘Has she never used this road before? It’s impossible to avoid all the frogs,’ my sister thought.
She continued driving behind her for a while, but the car kept swinging left to right and braking suddenly. They weren’t getting anywhere. Unable to put up with it any longer, my sister finally honked the car horn.
The woman in the car ahead of her didn’t seem to realise there was someone behind her, and with a jump of surprise, she suddenly took off at full speed.
“Geez. So she can drive straight…” my sister said to herself, but then immediately all the colour drained from her face.
Answer: Was the woman in the car to the front really driving left and right to avoid the frogs? If she was able to drive fast in a straight line all along, then why was she taking so much time to brake and manoeuvre around the road? Was it, perhaps, not to avoid the frogs, but the purposefully run over them…?
