The view from this cliff is so beautiful that it’s a famous spot. The wind from the viewing platform feels so nice. There’s a telescope at the end. I approached it, wondering which direction I might see my own house in, when a single man came closer.
“Ah, after you,” I said.
He jumped over the edge. I shouldn’t have let him go first. I’m in so much pain…
They weren’t there to use the telescope. The first man jumped over the cliff to commit suicide. The narrator then followed, but quickly regretted letting the other man go first because he presumably landed on him, breaking his fall and ensuring that he didn’t die instantly, but that the softer landing would prolong his own death.
