It’s summer, and in Japan that means it’s horror season. Starting in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Japanese horror cinema saw a revival with the likes of Ringu and Ju-on, and although the quality may vary, horror never really goes away. Ever wondered what horror movies, both Japanese and international, Japanese audiences recommend watching this summer? Let’s check them out.

10. Cabin in the Woods (2012)
09. Don’t Breathe (2016)
08. Ringu (1998)
07. Dark Water (2002)
06. The Shining (1980)
05. The Mist (2008)
04. The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017)
03. The VVitch (2016)
02. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1975)
01. It Part 1 (2017)

Kinda interesting to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the number two slot, but not so surprising that the new It is in the number one spot. It is new and quite good, after all.

How about you guys? Any surprises or recommendations yourself? Let me know!
