Top 10 Scariest Japanese Horror Movies of Heisei

The Heisei era has come to an end, and as we welcome Reiwa, many are reflecting on the good and bad that came with the last 30-odd years. Goo rankings recently asked their readers which horror movies they found the most terrifying of the Heisei era, and here is how they voted:

10. Kuroyuri Danchi (The Complex) (2013) [30 votes] x
8. Kodomo Tsukai (Innocent Curse) (2017) [32 votes] x
8. Zan’e -Sunde wa Ikenai Heya- (The Inerasable) (2015) [32 votes] x
6. Juon -The Final- (Ju-On: The Final Curse) (2015) [49 votes] x
6. Sadako vs Kayako (2016) [49 votes] x
5. Sadako 3D (2012) [76 votes] x
4. Honogurai Mizu no Soko kara (Dark Water) (2002) [90 votes] x
3. Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call) (2004) [137 votes] x
2. Juon (2003) [179 votes] x
1. Ring (1998) [528 votes] x

Again, no real surprises there, I think. Pretty much dominated by Sadako and Kayako, who really did sum up Japanese horror of the Heisei era. I’m looking forward to what new terrors Reiwa will now bring!
