You mustn’t commit suicide

My husband killed himself.

I was concerned about how to tell our five-year-old son about this, but in the end I decided to tell him straight.

“Sweetie, your daddy died,” I said. My son turned to me and said, “No, he didn’t die.”

I’ve heard that children can see things that we can’t, so thinking that maybe he could see his father’s spirit, I asked, “Oh, he didn’t? He didn’t die?”

“Yeah. Daddy’s dying over and over, even now.”

My blood ran cold. Just what is it that my son can see?
